The Washington Arts Group is holding a convocation titled, “Jumping Out of the Self-Referential Box: Certainties & Adventures for the Arts in the 21st Century.” WAG is a Washington, D.C. based group founded in 1977 to encourage professionalism in the arts according to spiritual values and striving for artistic integrity.
I found out about the conference through Second Spring. A friend, Stratford Caldecott, will be presenting, as well many other promising faith and culture speakers:
- Dr. Tom Howard, highly acclaimed scholar and speaker
- Joseph Pearce, author of “Literary Converts” & Ave Marie College writer in residence
- Gregory Wolfe, co-founder of Image Journal & writer in residence at Seattle Pacific University (my Alma Mater)
- And many more…
It promises to be a dynamic and inspiring event. We’ll be sure to report on the events of the conference and forthcoming fruits.

Artists constantly search to express the ineffable. Andrei Tarkovsky does this profoundly in his cinematic masterpiece, “Andrei Rublev.”Upon this movie recommendation from Fr. Eric Sternberg, we’ve chosen this film for our first ruah movie night Friday, May 11th at 6:30pm at casa Smith, the ruah Headquarters for now. (See link for map below.)
There will be food, a little introduction to ruah, the movie and a brief talk on John Paul II’s “Letter to Artists.”
RSVP’s are not mandatory, but it will help us to know how many people to expect. Email ruahfellowship@gmail.com. And tell your friends!

It seems a cloistered Eastern Catholic monk is more web saavy than this little lay person. I took my cue from Father Abbot Joseph. The Google Conglomerate, from what I can see supports child abuse. Eventually I’ll switch over my email, so stay tuned…
